When it comes to the design of espresso machines, not all of them are created equal … by far. There are machines out there that are really work of art. Here are 9 of the excellent examples. Now there is lots of retro in this list, but then on again retro has lots of style in it.

Francis Francis X1 Ground Espresso Machine Kit

Designed by Italian architect Luca Trazzi, it has ‘retro’ written all over it. This is probably one of the most stylish espresso machines ever to walk the face of the earth (figurately speaking of course. It doesn’t walk.) For some reason it brings to mind those American diners in 50’s that you can see in the movies.

Gensaco Dome Espresso Machine

This machine somewhat reminds me the droid C-3PO from Star Wars. Actually, this is what espresso machines looked like in Italy in first half of the 20th century. No science fiction involved. These machines were omnipresent in hotel lobbys and fancy restaurants. The eagle at the top is purely extravaganza of the La Belle Epoque times.

Doesn’t it look like a robot’s head from early sci-fi movies? Gauges for eyes and everything. I wonder if that’s what designer had in mind? This machine definitely is bold statement of style and function.

Gaggia Factory 16 Cup Manual Espresso Machine

A machine that has old world elegant ambiance with chrome base, steam pressure gauge and traditional steam wand all wrapped in a slick chrome body. This piston lever machine makes espresso making much more personal experience than fully automatic machines ever could.

Bodum Granos Automatic Espresso Machine

Bodum Granos Automatic Espresso Machine

This looks more like a model for a futuristic science centre than espresso machine. Bodum is well known for their astounding designs and innovative function, so, it’s no wonder that their first step into the world of electric pump driven espresso machines would be a knock out design and a top notch performer.

La Pavoni Europiccola 8-Cup Espresso Machines

With gold plated and lacquer coated solid-brass boiler and rosewood handles, this gorgeous piece is sure to brighten up even the dullest kitchen. This is the machine to the kind of person who likes to take active part in espresso making and doesn’t expect the machine to do everything. The kind of person who considers making espresso a fine tuned art.

This is one of those machines where past meets the future with style. Its retro look is combined with the best that modern technology has to offer. It brightens up the kitchen with a splash of color while you enjoy a your espresso, cappuccino or latte.

Espressione 1387 Caffe Novecento Espresso/Cappuccino Machine, Chrome

This machine would be perfect for the kitchen that has been designed with industrial style. The retro-looking thermometer on top and the handles on the side remind me old steam machines, which actually is not that far from the truth, if you think about it. Of course you don’t have make your kitchen look like a factory to fit this piece in, it’s the kind on design that would stand out in any kitchen.
